The Weak Things
A misconception often found in the Body of Christ, is that we think that we, and others, have to be perfect, learned, scholarly, wise, mighty in talents, seasoned, mature in the gospel etc. in order to be called, to be His child, to witness or testify, to preach, to teach, to minister, to prophesy... Not so!
For Jesus said,
📖Matthew 11:25
"At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes."
📖1 Corinthians 1:26-27 says,
"For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;"
While we should put forth every effort to faithfully steward well, what the Lord gives us or calls us to, we should never forget, that it is by HIS Spirit, strength, and power that anything bears fruit. We give Him our yes, and He leads the way. As we submit to God and His calling, He gives us grace for the process... Grace for our learning and growth. Which should not stop but ever be an ongoing process of reflection, prayer, walking in faith, growing in trust in the Lord, discovery of the new He has for us, daily renewing our minds, hearts, posture, and repentance. And daily study of His Word. He knows, we are imperfect!
📖2 Corinthians 12:9-10 says,
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."
But, if we take it upon us to judge by what we think or know about ourselves or others, we greatly err. And in so doing, begin to weaponize our own thoughts, opinions, and judgements, against ourselves and others. This is carnality, giving opening to the enemy. This is respect of persons, which is idolatry. This misjudging can be a very slippery slope into commending ourselves, lifting up self or others idolatrously, Pride, ego, self-centeredness, self-reliance, ignoring the Holy Spirit, self-condemnation, self-sabotage, falling short of blessings and promises, or delaying them, because of not obeying the Lord. Which can very quickly lead us off of the straight and narrow path.
📖1 Corinthians 3:18-20 says,
"Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."
And 📖Romans 12:1-4 says,
" I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:"
We should never boast in our own, or any other person's, strength, measure of stewarding, education, works, minds, hearts - Because it is GOD who starts and finishes the good work in each of us.
We should never boast in that we are better or less, more important or less important, more seasoned, more versed, more "spiritual" than another. Or even that we, or they, are not "enough"... God knows every heart and work.
And if we fall into the temptation of competing, measuring up against others, vain ambitions, or vain glory- That can lead to more ungodliness in self-righteousness, fault finding, hindering the growth of another or ourselves, and aspiring to the honors of men.
All throughout scripture, and history, we see God's called and chosen display at times their imperfections, short comings, weaknesses, and immaturity. Yet, they when they remained faithful, repentant, and humble, the glory of God was revealed in and through them. Walking in faith, trust, and obedience, the Father's success was manifest in many great things!
Just look at the examples and lives of Moses, David, Samson, Gideon, Jeremiah, Jonah, Peter, Paul, Thomas, and so many others...
📖Jeremiah 1:4-10 says,
"Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7 But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
9 Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant."
See... We think, "Who am I?" or " Who are they?", that God should call me, or call them. But the real question should be "Who is this God, who calls us?" His heart and mind are so much wilder, higher, and greater than ours!
He says, "Be ye perfect, even as I am perfect." So, we are to walk with Him, in the Spirit. And not fulfill the lust of the flesh. We are called to continue to learn and grow, to seek Him, follow Him, renew, repent, refine, and then resume the work- daily. His grace is sufficient.
And just because we know our own weaknesses, or those of another, does not mean that God does not call us, or use as an instrument in His hand, or work in and through us, for His purposes. He does!
If we judge according to the flesh, we can become Pharisee minded, and believe we are doing God's will, while actually kicking against the pricks, and persecuting our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We can taint everything and everyone we touch, with the lies of the enemy. In this we must search ourselves in God's presence, and ask Him, what His whole width, height, breadth, and estimation of us is. Otherwise, much harm can be done to ourselves and others!
Look at how Jesus was treated, even in His hometown. They would not believe His words, because they thought, in their own minds, that He was just a carpenter's son. They saw Him grow up, so, they refused to be open to Him. This is an important lesson.
We should not esteem ourselves or others, as nothing, for we are all the workmanship and glorious creation of our Amazing God. And we should not esteem ourselves above others, for it is God's throne. He is God- The Head, and we are the body. He is the Father, and we are the children.
God's glory is displayed in this way. So that we will be humble, meek, submissive and teachable, as a little child to the Father. And yet, grow in grace, line upon line, precept upon precept in a process of maturing, as we walk in His Spirit, and trust Him in confidence.
Let us be sure to humble ourselves before the Lord. And remember- He didn't ask us for wisdom and might... But for a willing and broken heart, and a contrite spirit.
🙏Father, I pray, we will all do this. And that we will not fear, or cower to our own weaknesses, nor to what others think. But, that we would in reverence fear only our God. That we will, stand on Your Word and promises. That we will come boldly before Your throne and ask You the truth. That we will declare His mighty works and praise His holy name. That we will step out in faith and obedience, when He calls. That we will trust Him, and accept His great love, thoughts and plans for us. That we will follow where He leads. And that we will remember that we are who HE says we are. And that we will always give, ALL Honor, Praise, and Glory to Him. In Jesus' most holy and beautiful name, Amen🙏
🙏❤🕊God Bless
